European politician and LGP Senior Expert Counsel Mag. Dimitrios Droutsas is an experienced, expert in European law and data protection. As a Member of the European Parliament, he was Deputy Chairman of the Committee on Industry, Research and Energy, as well as the rapporteur and shadow rapporteur for Data Protection Directive and the General Data Protection Regulation. He is the former Foreign Minister of Greece, and his work focuses on international politics, decision-making processes within the European Union, European law, the EU and South-Eastern Europe, energy, industry, and data protection. His career has taken him from the Foreign Office of the Republic of Austria, and, subsequently, of Greece (as a legal advisor and independent special advisor), to the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK), where he held several positions of political leadership, to the helm of the Greek Foreign Office. He studied law at the University of Vienna, and, at the start of his career, he worked at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (WU) as a university assistant. Dimitrios Droutsas has been showered with numerous awards for his international work, including the Makarios Order of the Republic of Cyprus and awards from the Patriarchate of Jerusalem. Dimitrios Droutsas speaks German, English, French and Greek.
